Hands-down, one of the best purchases I’ve made as an adult living in a city built for walking are my rainboots (as seen on this pigeon). Worth every penny, these boots allow me to step directly in large puddles sans regret while engulfed in feelings of unparalleled elation.

Also, this is the photo resource I used for the pigeon. It’s a Berlin Short Faced Tumbler (they’re apparently selectively bred and adorable).

The Into the Woods poster was another fun project for the ever-growing Miami Childrens Theater.

In order to properly prepare myself for this illustration, I had to do a bit of research in the form of googling images of castles and watching the PBS special (which is streaming on Netflix, and actually really disturbing for reasons you could never imagine – SPOILER: IT’S ABOUT THE WOLF COSTUME).

Also, I definitely need to go to Germany just to see the Neuschwanstein Castle, which is the real-life manifestation of every little girls’ dream who grew up in the Disney-era (Disney actually based Cinderella’s castle off this one…and, um, I based the castle in the above illustration off it as well).

I don’t usually blog about shows that I go to becaaaaause…no one cares. However, I shuffled to Brooklyn last night to see Grimes play at the Glasslands Gallery and after, felt compelled to write about it.

It’s mainly because Claire Boucher is such a pro and her music sounded so good live. I’m a cynic and always kind of euphorically impressed when something classified as ‘psychedelic dream pop’ sounds better (or just as good!) live than it does on the actual album.

It didn’t hurt having Born Gold as her backup band and that she doesn’t have to compensate for her voice, which is great—even with a raging cold (its clarity and range reminded me of Raphaelle Standell-Preston from Blue Hawaii/BRAIDS). Also, it’s worth noting that she’s a great performer.

It’s great to be able to see a rising artist like Grimes in a small venue before someone realizes there’s a lot of money to be made and inevitably herds them to Terminal 5.

Here’s a ridiculously horrible quality video that I took during Symphonia IX (My Wait Is U).

Some fun facts are:

I’ve actually seen this show on ~*~Broadway~*~ (with my parents, obviously) and thought it was legit hilarious.

I was a finalist in the spelling bee in grade school and honest-to-god got eliminated on the word U-N-S-U-C-C-E-S-S-F-U-L. I tell this story to everyone I meet to ensure that they know I’m innately ironic (aka, “cool” and meta) and not really intimidated by humiliation.

Use bullets responsibly and mindfully.

Don’t go all freaky with colors (personal aside: ink splatters are a dealbreaker)

Remember when I listened to Phantom Limb on a continuous loop for about six months straight? No? It was probably before you met me.

Anyways, in an effort to showcase my ELITE taste in music (because I vowed to last year), I have to take a moment to publicly acknowledge the newish single from The Shins, Simple Song, because it is gorgeous:

Simple Song by The Shins

I’ve been praying for The Shins to reunite for years. James Mercer can still write the shit out of a love song.
